About Care Collars
As with many things, necessity is the mother of invention. In this case, trying
to find a solution for a dog with chronic medical issues started the ball rolling.
I was volunteering with Boxer Rescue Canada when a beautiful but very ill boxer
ended up at one of the shelters in the lower mainland. They called boxer rescue
and asked if this dog that they called Rosie could come into boxer rescue.
Rosie was in respiratory heart failure and had a few other medical issues.
She came into rescue and went to a foster home and with the right medication
and care, her health improved. The downside was that it cost more than $70 a
month in medication to keep her well. (click here to read
more of Rosie’s story)
Finances are always an issue with rescues and taking $70 /mth out of a rescue
seriously hampers the ability to help other dogs. I decided that I needed to
do an ongoing fundraiser to make enough money to buy her medication. Since I
sew, I decided that fun, unique custom-made collars and leashes may appeal to
dog owners.
Slowly by word of mouth and talking to other people in rescue I am able to
make and sell collars and leashes and raise the required money every month.
Many people in rescue knew of Rosie’s story and are very supportive of
my efforts. I have made the commitment to support Rosie’s medical needs
for the rest of her life.
I have now managed to make and sell enough collars and leashes to help some
other animals in the same situation as Rosie. These poor animals are virtually
un-adoptable because of their medical issues but wonderful volunteers have taken
them into their hearts and homes and with their love and care try to restore
their health and give them an opportunity to have a forever home and their own
family.
So, Care Collars was born! Helping rescued animals with medical issues. I make
and sell the collars and leashes and donate the money to animals in need through
the Care Collar fund. When you buy a collar or leash from me, not only do you
get a custom collar for your dog in the colours you choose, the money goes on
to help animals in need. A win-win situation!

each ribbon and fabric so the collars and leashes stay unique.
